Interesting and highly sought-after German picture book from the First World War, titled "Vater ist im Kriege. Ein Bilderbuch fur Kinder", published in 1915 by the War Children’s Fund of German Women (Berlin, Kronprinzenpalais). This historical book was compiled at the time by Rudolf Presber, on the one hand to raise money for the children of soldiers at the front, and on the other to explain the war to the home front in a romanticized way. It contains beautiful, full-page color plates by well-known artists (including L. Berwald-Halensee) showing war volunteers (Kriegsfreiwillige), early combat aircraft (Der Flieger), the Landsturm, and an impressive nighttime Zeppelin attack. Unique historical detail:On the marbled endpaper is a beautiful, early handwritten owner’s inscription in Sütterlin script:"This book reminds me of the great world war in the years 1914 to 1918." This gives the item a tangible, personal history as a keepsake from the war years.  Condition: Good, used condition. The book is 100% complete with all pages and plates firmly bound in, free of the usual heavy stains or children’s scribbles. The original half-cloth binding shows the inevitable age wear and bumps to the cardboard edges and corners (see photos). An honest, unspoiled copy with a beautiful appearance.
