A rare, 100% original and truly in very fine condition set of an Elementprüfer neuer Art (pocket voltmeter) for the German signal troops (Nachrichtentruppe). This instrument was used in the trenches to test the battery cells of, among other things, the Eiserner Feldfernsprecher (field telephone). What makes this specific set so unique and sought after are the razor-sharp markings from the final year of the First World War (1918) and the presence of the rare L.Z.A. stamp (Leder-Zuweisungs-Amt), combined with the flying eagle. These stamps directly testify to leather distribution and scarcity in the German Empire at the end of the war. The heavy, brown harness-leather case is in fantastic condition; the leather has remained beautifully supple, has a superb patina, and all original stitching is completely intact/ deeply and sharply stamped with the well-known maker: Franz Cobau, Berlin 1918. The original fastening buckle works perfectly. A particularly rare detail is that on the inside of the lid the original instruction label is still  fully present and perfectly legible. This label explains exactly how the switch on the back (1 EL. / 3 EL.) must be set to prevent the meter from burning out, including the specific instruction for testing pocket torch batteries. The voltmeter itself is also in superb condition and comes complete with the original fabric measuring cable. An absolute top-tier set for the advanced WW1 collector.
