Offered: A historically very interesting and rare set of 5 original prayer cards/vignettes from the Catholic Home Front and the "Praying Army-Netherlands". These cards were issued to provide spiritual support to Dutch soldiers deployed overseas (Dutch East Indies). The set consists of the following 5 cards, categorized by version: • Three cards by M. Jenneskens (Venlo):The two cards in the top row (top left and top center) and the card at bottom right are marked with the rare front-line imprint at the bottom: "Impr. M. Jenneskens Vic. Cap. Feb. 1945". Since Venlo was not liberated until March 1, 1945, these cards were printed in the extremely turbulent final weeks of the occupation. They contain the general prayer of "Maria's Praying Army". • The card at top right (Children's Army - Juc. Schreurs):This card has a very different typography and layout, and does NOT contain Jenneskens printer text. It concerns the "Maria's Praying Children's Army" with a rhymed prayer for "Our Boys in the East". This poem was written by the well-known priest-poet Father Jucundus (Jacques) Schreurs M.S.C., whose life's work later served as the model for the TV series "Diary of a Hound". Notable detail: on the back, his official Latin religious name "Juc. Schreurs M.S.C." is printed. • The card at bottom left (Different Home Front card):Although this is very similar in text layout to the Jenneskens cards, it completely lacks the specific line with Jenneskens' place name and date at the bottom. There is only a fill-in line for the soldier's name. Condition of the cards:The cards are in neat, authentic condition with light signs of age (see photos). The fill-in lines for the soldiers' names are still completely blank on all cards (unused). Ideal for the serious collector of militaria (Dutch East Indies), World War II & frontline history (Limburg/Venlo) and religious heritage.
