Offered: A very rare and historically fascinating piece of social history and dark humor from the period of (or just after) the First World War (ca. 1916-1920). It is an original German satirical emergency death notice ("Not-Todesanzeige") in the form of a mourning letter, mourning the "death" of the last real coffee bean (Kaffee-Böhnchen). Due to the extreme scarcity and blockades during WW1, real coffee had become an unaffordable luxury at the time. This card pokes fun at that in a brilliant way. The text mentions "hoarded sugar", "Danish milk", and at the bottom it mourns, among others, the "Hamster-Klub Schlepp viel heim" and "Geschwister Voll- und Magermilch". Condition:The card is blank on the back and shows authentic signs of age and wear along the edges (see photos), which fits perfectly with the fragile wartime paper of the period.
