A beautiful and extremely extensive German commemorative album from the First World War. This large-format album covers the early war years 1914-1915 and contains no fewer than 214 original period photos of high quality. The contents offer a rare glimpse into logistics and trench warfare on the Western Front. The album contains a razor-sharp and fully identifiable inscription on the loose studio portrait-photo. The handwritten dedication in Kurrent/Sütterlin script reads: "To dear Martha for Christmas 1915", gifted by Daniel Müller (Postoberinspektor) and his wife Katharina Müller (Geb. Hirschler) from Munich. Daniel specifically identifies himself as "Brother of Ernst Müller". The large studio portrait photo of the couple, was produced by the photo studio J. Grieshaber in Munich (Schwanthalerstraße). The gentleman in this portrait reappears prominently in the field photos on several pages. Content sections & militaria highlights: German Field Post in Action: Very interesting detailed shots that relate to the owner's profession. Among other things, a photo of soldiers in an advanced building behind a counter with official mailbags, and a field postman delivering letters deep in the trenches. Heavy Artillery & Minenwerfer: High-quality images of combat equipment, including a sharp photo of a heavy German mortar (Minenwerfer) in position and men carrying heavy shells. Early Air Force (Flieger-Truppen): Several sought-after images of early German combat aircraft (biplanes/monoplanes) on an improvised airfield, surrounded by officers and men. Trench Warfare & Advance (Arras Region): The album contains a clear geographical marker thanks to a photographed army sign reading "Braunmüller-Hof" with explicit mentions of Arras (northern France). It also includes a village scene of a military staff car in front of a shopfront reading "Louis Quinet", various photos of trenches (soldiers on guard by camouflaged firing slits), large smoke screens over the fields, ruined buildings, strategic windmills, and horse battalions. Condition:The album is in excellent, original condition. The structured cover with silver-gray printing "Kriegserinnerungen", the Iron Cross, and the year 1914 is completely intact. The original binding cord is still firmly present. All 214 photos were mounted in place on the pages at the time and are still perfectly in position.
