Commemorative medal from 1914, instituted by the Prussian Minister of Public Works, Paul von Breitenbach. At the time, this medal was issued to raise funds for the foundation Eisenbahn-Töchterhort (a charitable institution for daughters of deceased railway employees). Obverse: Detailed portrait of Minister Paul von Breitenbach facing left. Reverse: Allegorical depiction of the war god Mars with sword and torch, running across a railway track atop a winged wheel. In the background, the year 1914. Designer: Certified design by the renowned German artist Arthur Lewin-Funcke (signed on the object as L. Lewin-Funcke). Size: Approx. 50 mm. Condition: Medal: Beautiful, fresh condition (Zustand 1-2 / Excellent). The medal shows very sharp details and has no deep corrosion or edge damage. Case: Original cardboard box. The paper label on the front (Christianenheim Erfurt) and the printed text on the back are still completely intact and clearly legible. Please note: Due to age, the lid is missing one side wall (see photos).
