A beautiful and highly detailed original portrait of a Luftwaffe Obergefreiter, drawn in the crucial war year 1944. This high-quality artwork is executed in charcoal and pencil on paper and shows a young Luftwaffe serviceman in three-quarter profile. The soldier is drawn in his iconic Fliegerbluse . On the collar patches are very sharply and detailed three stylized gulls (Schwingen)applied, which unmistakably indicates the enlisted rank of Obergefreiter. Bottom right, the drawing is clearly hand-signed by the artist and fully dated 1944. Condition & Presentation The portrait is in a beautiful, well-loved condition with a fantastic authentic patina. The work is housed in its original wooden frame. The back is fully sealed with the authentic brown framer's paper from that period, which shows light historical water traces (see detail photos). This confirms that the piece has never been removed from the frame since the war.
