Interesting National Socialist educational handbook from 1937, titled: “Hilf Deinem Kind! Ein Hausbuch für Eltern und Erzieher unserer Schulanfänger”. Written by Paul Hahn and Walter Ruthe, published by Verlag Emil Roth in Gießen. This 134-page book was intended to instruct parents and teachers on how they could shape young children (school beginners) from the very start of their school life according to the regime's guidelines. The book is a striking example of how everyday pedagogy, psychology, and family culture were intertwined with National Socialist ideology. Unique border-region provenance:This particular copy bears on the back a rare original ownership sticker from a resident of the border region: “Frau M. Hendrix, Kaldenkirchen (Rhld.), Hermann-Göring-Str. 4”. Kaldenkirchen lies directly on the Dutch border near Venlo (Limburg). The street name is a typical wartime renaming after Nazi figure Hermann Göring. After the liberation, the book remained on the Dutch side. Condition:The book is in a neat, complete, and used condition. The binding is good and all pages are present. Very important: the full-page photo of Adolf Hitler with the accompanying quote at the front of the book is still completely intact and has not been removed afterwards, something that was often done after the war out of fear of the Allies. A fine and telling historical document for collectors of Third Reich home-front memorabilia, educational history, or local history from the Venlo/Kaldenkirchen region!
