For sale: a very moving and historically complete photo postcard from the Western Front of the First World War. This card was sent on Christmas Eve (24 December 1915) by a German soldier (recruit) from the battlefield in France to his mother in Neuss. Front:An impressive, sharp photo of a wooden soldiers' cross with the Iron Cross on it. Location according to the print: "Soldiers' cemetery on the road from Lens to Arras".At the bottom of the photo, the soldier himself wrote a text in pencil: "Sende Dir liebe Mutter eine kleine Ansicht von dem Schlachtfeld in Frankreich." Back (Military and postal-historical details): Unique Christmas postmark: Beautifully cleanly stamped by the mobile field post office on Christmas Eve: K.D. FELDPOSTSTATION No. 24 / 24.12.15. Purple unit stamp: At bottom left is the official, sharp control stamp: "Rekrutenabteilung des mob. VIII A.-K. * Brief-Stempel *". Handwritten text: In old German script, the soldier writes: "Die besten Grüße aus Frankreich sendet Dir Dein dankbarer Sohn Franz". Addressed to Frau Franziska Dick in Neuss (Uhlandstraße 6). A beautiful, emotional, and historically significant collector's item for the WWI or field post enthusiast.
