Offered is an original example of the early, jawless German Totenkopf. This specific model served in the Second World War as a Traditionsabzeichen  on the headgear of the 5. Kavellerie Regiment and nearly all units of the 4. Kavallerie Regiment. A beautiful, untouched piece of history with a fantastic, time-worn appearance for the serious collector of early German militaria. Specific features: Construction: Made from stamped brass (tombak) with the correct hollow reverse. The details show the characteristic, slightly softer forms associated with a later production run from the original press die and decades of natural storage. The Mounting: Completely complete with the two original, flat brass split pins (splints) on the reverse. The pins are undamaged, are firmly fixed to the central solder base, and are tightly folded crisscross over one another. Patina: Featuring a beautiful, deep, and untouched natural age patina. Around the solder points on the reverse is the characteristic, authentic green copper oxidation (verdigris). On the front, the warm brass tones beautifully show through beneath the worn silver plating.
