Death card for Wehrmacht Obergefreiter Otto Wiesmaier, son of a house owner from Bogenberg. Otto was a highly decorated veteran and served in the elite unit Infantry Regiment (mot.) "Großdeutschland". He took part in the heavy campaigns in both North Africa and Russia. For his bravery, he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class (EK II), the Africa Medal and the Wound Badge (Verwundeten-Abzeichen). He fell in combat on 27 November 1942 at the age of 24 (K.I.A.) during the fierce defensive fighting near Turowo (Rzhev region, Russia) on the Eastern Front. According to the official records of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge, Otto Wiesmaier could not be recovered from the front line at the time. He rests in an unmarked field grave near Turowo and is officially commemorated by name in the memorial book at the large German military cemetery in Rzhev (Russia).
