In WW1 Max served as a leutnant with the infantry regiment No 18 (infantry regiment Von Grolman), from period WW1 his personal business card is present and the vorläufiges besitzzeugnis of the Ek2 (early award 1915) on the back of the certificate is described in which battles he participated, (Champagne region). In 1935 he receives the Ehrenkreuz Für Frontkämpfer. In 1939 he was called up and served as a leutnant in Landesschützen Bataillon 217. 01-04-1940 he was promoted to oberleutnant. In October 1940 he retires from service.
