Porcelain plate marking the 60th anniversary of the Maastricht clothing store Maison Louis 1879–1939. The plate was issued in 1939 when Maison Louis, located at Grote Staat 43 in Maastricht, celebrated its diamond jubilee. At the time, it was one of the city’s best-known clothing stores, specializing in made-to-measure menswear. Just before the Second World War, the business was run by the Jewish owners Hélène and Lou Franck, who fled to the United States. During the war years, Pierre Fischer took over the business, which was initially classified as a Juden Geschäft. In September 1944, the company received an order from the American liberation army to make 5000 white snow suits that were used during the Battle of the Bulge. The plate was made by manufacturer:Société Céramique in Maastricht and is in beautiful, undamaged condition. Diameter of the plate is: 19 CM. Beautiful item for the regional collector!
